The Needham Select Board is holding a public hearing on the proposed Tree By-law on Tuesday, September 8 at 6 PM at Town Hall, with the option to participate via Zoom. The proposal would create new protections for certain trees during major construction and redevelopment, helping preserve Needham’s tree canopy while balancing homeowners’ needs. 🐝🌱 If you care about climate resilience, wildlife, shade, stormwater, or simply keeping Needham green, this is a great opportunity to learn about the proposal and make your voice heard. You can attend in person or virtually and share your feedback! 📍 Needham Town Hall / 💻 Zoom
RenewNeedham is a community advocacy platform that connects real data, real voices, and real action to prove why sustainability must be at the heart of Needham. We educate residents about sustainable programs, make climate change understandable, and show how small changes in homes, schools, and neighborhoods add up to meaningful impact.
Needham's annual greenhouse gas emissions are 342,362 MTCO₂e — roughly equal to emissions from more than 74,000 gasoline-powered cars, far more cars than the town's entire population. In 2022, 22 weeks showed moderate to severe drought in Norfolk County, and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent.
33.91% of Needham's emissions come from residential buildings, meaning each household's choices matter enormously. We look to models like Burlington, VT — already running on 100% renewable energy and on track for Net-Zero by 2030 — as proof that Needham can get there too.
Sustainability is not optional.
It's the foundation of a healthy, resilient community.
We ground every claim in real survey data, emissions numbers, and community evidence.
Real voices and local impact drive everything we share and advocate for.
Students, residents, businesses, and officials all have a role in a greener Needham.
The people behind RenewNeedham.
